Makana Tribute to Sonny Chillingworth. Makana received a grant in the ‘80s from the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts to study under Hawaiian slack key legend Sonny Chillingworth. By the age of 15, he had already turned professional. This concert is a Tribute that Makana has long intended to create for the Big Island. Sonny Chillingworth was one of the most influential slack key guitarists in history. He played with Gabby Pahinui for years, and released “Waimea Cowboy” in the ‘60s, which went Gold. Special guests include Liebert Lyndsey, George Kuo, Marlene Sai, and more. A video tribute will also be incorporated into the show.
