King Kamehameha Day in Kohala.  North Kohala is a very special place to celebrate this annual Hawaiian holiday. Kamehameha I was born in North Kohala, where residents played a prominent role in saving his life as an infant. Events start at 7 a.m. at the King Kamehameha Statue, located at 55-3415 Akoni Pule Hwy, in Kapa`au, with a 25-foot long floral lei draping.  The parade starts at 9 a.m., in Hawi, going northeast to the statue in Kapa`au and back to Kamehameha Park. The final event is a community celebration, or ho`olaulea, in Kamehameha Park from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. with hula, traditional music, local food, and arts and crafts.  For information call (808) 557-6042 or visit www.kamehamehadaycelebration.org.
