Duke Kahanamoku Beach Challenge. The event kicks off with a double-hulled canoe procession, an oli (chant) and Kahiko (ancient hula and song) by the Kamehameha Schools Hawaiian Ensemble class. Following the opening ceremonies, enjoy a special line-up of entertainment from the Main Stage on the Great Lawn with Hula, Tahitian and local celebrity talent. A day of family fun and competition which includes team quarter-mile (1/4 mile) canoe sprint race in Duke’s Beach (Canoes, paddles and steersman provided, if needed), ancient Hawaiian Makahiki land games, Huki Kaula (Hawaiian Tug-of-War), Team SUP (stand up paddle) Races in Rainbow Lagoon, non-stop live entertainment, and Craft Marketplace.   Hilton Hawaiian Village, 2005 Kalia Rd., Honolulu. 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. For information call (808) 923-1802 or visit www.waikikicommunitycenter.org.
