Author Reading – Liz Prato. Liz will read from her new book, Volcanoes, Palm Trees, & Privilege: Essays on Hawaii, in which Hawaiian history, pop culture, and contemporary affairs are woven with personal narrative in fifteen essays that examine how the touristic ideal of Hawaii came to be. The book is a highly readable hybrid of the in-depth exploration of narrative journalism combined with the through-line of memoir. The book is an excellent introduction to Hawaiian culture for the visitor or new resident.
