E Kanikapila Kakou 2020 – “Hula, Mele & Moolelo” featuring Michael Pili Pang & Halau – The Story of Hula in Songs. Kumu Hula Michael Pili Pang of Halau Hula Ka Noeau Hula Academy brings to the EKK stage a truly unique presentation. He narrates the evolution of hula through decades of hula kahiko and hula chants followed by a showcase of auwana hula and mele. Michael’s presentations are artistic, emotional, informative and exciting as he guides you through a time-and-space travel through the genealogy of the traditional hula kui. His studied with Hula Master Maiki Aiu and Mae Kamamalu Klein and master chanter Pualani Kanaka’ole Kanahele.
All EKK gigs are held in the Jasmine Ballroom of the Kauai Beach Resort from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. A suggested donation in the calabash of $10 -$15 treats you to an unforgettable evening of aloha from the heart.

Sunday, February 9th at 4:30 pm Monday, February 10th at 8:30 am Join the Board of Directors of Pacific Whale Foundation, Executive Director Kristie Wrigglesworth and Mrs. Selket Kaufman for a very special ecotour in celebration of our 40th year of ocean protection and environmental stewardship. Gathering from different parts of the world, our Board will be on Maui to address the Foundation’s work in Hawaii, Australia, Ecuador, and Chile. Meet this team of environmental champions as you enjoy a spectacle of whales and gain a better understanding of the organization’s history, current status and future plans as a leader in the research, education, and conservation of marine mammals living wild in their natural habitat. The wife of our founder and leader Greg Kaufman who spent 40 years traveling throughout Oceania as a pioneer in noninvasive humpback whale research, Mrs. Selket Kaufman will also join this special VIP ecotour. During this special 2-hour Whalewatch, you’ll hear fascinating facts and insightful commentary, as well as live whale songs from underwater hydrophones. Whale Day & Parade of Whales. Back by popular demand, the Whale Day 2020 Parade travels down South Kihei Road, starting at Kamaole Beach 1 and ending at Kalama Park in Kihei. After the parade, stay at Kalama Park in Kihei from 10 AM – 3 PM for FREE interactive displays on marine research, education and conservation; hula performances; a keiki carnival; local food vendors; Made on Maui arts & crafts vendors; the Wild & Wonderful Whale Regatta; expert speakers and more as we celebrate our 40th year of ocean protection. This year we are proud to partner with other Maui whale protectors- Whale Trust, Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary and Division of Aquatic Resources – DLNR – Hawaii to present Whale Day. Eric Gilliom One-Man Show – White Hawaiian

Eric Gilliom One-Man Show – White Hawaiian.
Eric Gilliom stars in an original one-man theatrical show, “White Hawaiian,” co-created by writer/director Brian Kohne (Kuleana). This one man show represents the first collaboration between the pair since “Get A Job,” an award-winning comedy produced entirely on Maui in 2010. Music lovers may remember their previous work as co-producers of the Barefoot Natives with Uncle Willie K, which resulted in two award-winning CDs and hysterical sold-out shows in the islands and beyond. Eric Gilliom explores identity through the lens of Hawaiian history, contemporary culture, and family, and this is certainly one show you do not want to miss! Maui’s Eric Gilliom is a recording artist and star of stage and screen, having appeared in movies, TV, on Broadway, and in concert venues throughout the country. He’s performed alongside legends including Willie K, Mick Fleetwood, and Jamie Foxx, and descends from a family of entertainers. “White Hawaiian” is an original one-man show co-written by long-time collaborator Brian Kohne (Kuleana, Get A Job), and promises to be an evening of storytelling and hysterics audiences will not soon forget. The Shops at Wailea welcomes back Maui’s own Angela and Phil Benoit to Jazz at The Shops on Wednesday, February 5. The talented jazz duo will perform a free concert in the upper level luxury wing at The Shops at Wailea from 5:30 to 7pm, benefiting the Maui Food Innovation Center. Born in Paia, Angela Benoit has been singing all of her life and has performed professionally for over 20 years. Phil Benoit, a self-taught guitarist who moved to Hawaii in the late ’70’s, has also been performing for over two decades. Together, they have produced four Eps, including the late 2019 release “All Caught Up In You.” They also head up the Maui-based jazz group “Benoit Jazzworks,” playing their original music together in addition to jazz standards, bossa nova, pop and Hawaiian swing. The duo spreads their music across the islands and the world by performing in clubs, concert venues, private house concerts and more all over Hawaii, and touring the west coast annually. In a continued effort to give back to the community, The Shops at Wailea supports a different Maui non-profit each month with a portion of the special event parking fees going to the selected charity.

Great Whale Count – Month of February

Great Whale Count – Month of February. The annual Great Whale Count brings volunteers together to count whales from 12 survey sites along the shoreline of Maui as part of a long-term survey of humpback whales in Hawaii. This event provides the PWF Research department with a snapshot of trends in relative abundance of whales and is one of the world’s longest-running citizen scientist projects, also offering a chance to spend time at a favorite spot or to explore a new part of the island. Upcoming dates are Saturday, Jan 25, 2019, Saturday, Feb 29, 2019, and Saturday, March 28, 2019. Maui Sunday Market is held each Sunday from 4 pm to 8 pm in the Kahului Shopping Center parking lot. This popular event features live entertainment, food trucks, island vendors, Family Bingo, and activities showcasing the local community and Hawaii’s cultural traditions. Public admission and parking is free.
The Maui Sunday Market is presented by the Maui Food Technology Center, and is supported by the County of Maui Office of Economic Development, Hawaii Tourism Authority, and A&B Properties.
