Artist 2 Artist: Henry Kapono & Sean Na’auao

Artist 2 Artist: Henry Kapono & Sean Na’auao. In this concert series, two artists talk-story, play music, and have fun! Each concert will feature Henry Kapono and a different guest artist in an intimate format that offers the audience a rare opportunity to get up-close and personal.
The artists will share music and stories from their careers and answer questions, giving the audience an up-close-and-personal seat at the jam session. This concert features Sean Na’auao
Henry Kapono is a performer who has it all – vocalist, guitarist, songwriter, composer, thrilling performer, audience favorite—and multiple honors and awards, including a Grammy nomination. He has taken home numerous Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards, including Male Vocalist of the Year, Song of the Year, Single of the Year, and Album & Rock Album of the Year.
Sean Naauao is a slack key guitarist, vocalist, composer, producer, and founder of independent record label, Poi Pounder. He has received multiple Na Hoku Hanohano Awards, including Island Contemporary Album of the Year for his popular, “Fish and Poi.”  Sean was a founding member of Mana’o Company, a group that made a huge mark on the Hawaiian music scene in the ‘80s and ‘90s. His repertoire runs from the most contemporary of island music to heartfelt traditional Hawaiian mele.

Kona Nui Nights

Kona Nui Nights. Kona Nui Nights is a free monthly event that honors and highlights Hawaiian language, music, and the art of hula.
The event starts at 6:00 pm and the doors will open at 5:30 pm. There is limited seating and a cash bar available at the event (Outside alcohol will not be permitted). If you are hungry before or after the show, be sure to stop by one of the fantastic Ward Village restaurants that are just steps away from the Ward Village Courtyard.

This powerful documentary celebrates Hōkūleʻa’s historic Mālama Honua worldwide voyage that connected countless individuals and communities from around the globe. It was a voyage that also represented the fulfillment of the vision of Nainoa Thompson and his contemporaries—the passing of the mantle to the next generation of kānaka maoli who will retain the skills of their ancestors and perpetuate this tradition for generations to come. Rated PG/153 min. Screenings will be followed by a Q&A with members of Hōkūleʻa crew.

Hawaiian Steel Guitar Festival at Kahala Mall

Hawaiian Steel Guitar Festival at Kahala Mall. The 2019 Hawaiian Steel Guitar Festival at Kahala Mall Keiki Kine will be held on August 17, 2019 at Honolulu’s Kahala Mall in East O’ahu. This festival will begin at 1 PM and will feature Keiki NextGen steel guitar players and musicians age 10 and older from Alan Akaka’s Ke Kula Mele Hawaii School of Hawaiian Music, singing and playing Hawaii’s favorite Hawaiian music. This festival will be presented free to the public by Breezy Ridge Instruments and John Pearse Strings, Hawaii Institute for Music Enrichment and Learning Experiences (HIMELE) and the Kahala Mall. John Pearse strings and bars are used exclusively by the keiki steel guitarists performing at this festival.

Duke’s OceanFest

Duke’s OceanFest. Duke’s OceanFest features a variety of ocean sports close to Duke Kahanamoku’s heart, including Longboard Surfing, Paddleboard Racing, Swimming, Tandem Surfing, Surf Polo, Beach Volleyball, and Stand-Up Paddling. The annual festival, held on the shores of Waikiki in August, celebrates Duke Kahanamoku’s life, his athletic contributions and his spirit that continues to live on. The Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation is responsible for the continuing success of the OceanFest events. ODKF is a progressive, proactive organization whose board members are dedicated to serving Hawaii’s water sports community.
