Merrie Monarch Festival.  Hawai`i’s most venerable hula celebration and competition with week-long festivities including exhibitions, musical entertainment, arts and crafts fairs and the Miss Aloha Hula Competition, kahiko (ancient) and auana (modern) hula competitions. Aloha Theater: “Hot l Baltimore”.  The Hot l Baltimore is a play by Lanford Wilson. Set in the lobby of the Hotel Baltimore, it focuses on the residents of the decaying property who are faced with eviction when the structure is condemned. The title is from the hotel’s neon marquee and its burned-out letter. Duke Kahanamoku Beach Challenge

Duke Kahanamoku Beach Challenge.  The event kicks off with a double-hulled canoe procession, an oli (chant) and Kahiko (ancient hula and song) by the Kamehameha Schools Hawaiian Ensemble class.  Events feature a 1/4 mile canoe sprint race in Duke’s Beach, Ancient Hawaiian Makahiki land games (the public is invited to participate for a donation to WCC), which include Huki Kaula (Hawaiian Tug-of-War), SUP Paddle Races in Rainbow Lagoon, Canoe Glide Demonstration in Rainbow Lagoon and Duke Beach. Live entertainment featuring Jake Shimabukuro and Henry Kapono and more. Earth & Ocean Festival.  This festival is designed to showcase and emphasize the unique treasures of Hawai`i Island through active participation in educational booths and activities on coral reef, ocean stewardship and conservation practices in Hawai`i. Learn about traditional Hawaiian cultural practices, environmental programs will be presented in the Surf & Turf Theater, and educational tours will be offered throughout the day.
