Ku Mai Ka Hula, 8th Annual International Hula Competition.  This international hula competition features halau winners from Japan’s competition and halau from Hawai`i in adult solo and group performances. The dancers compete in kahiko (traditional hula) and auana (modern-day hula stylings) in both male and female categories. Mayor’s Remembrance Walk

Mayor’s Remembrance Walk.  The Mayor’s Remembrance Walk is held in observance of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States. The procession begins with ceremonies at Police Dept. headquarters at 801 S. Beretenia St., concluding at Eternal Flame Monument in front of Honolulu Hale. Includes a police motorcycle formation, color guard, Celtic Pipes and Drums, dignitaries, and Honolulu’s uniformed personnel. Puna Culinary Festival.  The Puna Culinary Festival celebrates culture, cuisine, and abundant produce of Puna. The festival’s theme focuses on local products and sustainable farming in Puna. The week features a variety of culinary classes, farm and market tours, and themed dinners. Slack Key Guitar Concerts

Cool Fusion 2013

Cool Fusion 2013. Local ceramic artists have volunteered their time and talent to create 1000 beautiful handmade noodle bowls. Each guest chooses one of these bowls, which they will keep, to enjoy a light lunch of Japanese cold somen noodles, and support the Donkey Mill Art Center.  Relax on the lawn while enjoying live music by slack key artist John Keawe.  $25 for adults and $12 for children 12 and under.
