Pan Pacific Festival – Ho`olaulea

Friday – Sunday, June 7 – 9: 
Pan Pacific Festival – Ho`olaulea.  A diverse gathering of people, cultural exhibitions, and talent from across the Pacific Rim. One of the largest outdoor multi-cultural exhibits of its kind in the state of Hawai`i and it happens in beautiful Waikiki, on Kalakaua Avenue. The main thoroughfare is temporarily closed down to vehicular traffic from Lewers Street to Kaiulani Avenue to accommodate this festive block party. Pan-Pacific Hula Festival

Friday, June 7: 
Pan-Pacific Hula Festival.  The traditional Hawaiian fine art of hula has become very popular worldwide and especially in Japan, where there are more than 200,000 practitioners of this time-honored dance. The Pan-Pacific Hula Festival provides a dream opportunity for many of these groups who practice all year long, in anticipation of dancing the hula in Hawai`i.  See hula groups from across Japan performing their interpretation of the hula on stage. There will also be a special exhibition performance by local halau, Halau O Napuala Ikauika Iu led by Kumu Hula Sally Yoza. 8th Annual Wa`a Kiakahi Hawaiian Canoe Sailing Festival

Friday – Sunday, May 31 – June 2: 
8th Annual Wa`a Kiakahi Hawaiian Canoe Sailing Festival.  On Friday, 3 p.m., witness arrival of the canoes on Ka`anapali Beach (Ka`anapali Beach Resort, 2525 Ka`anapali Pkwy., Lahaina) and the traditional Hawaiian welcome ceremony for 10 crews of the Hawaiian Sailing Canoe Association after completing a 30 mile race from Kahului Harbor.  On Saturday, 10 a.m., take a Hawaiian sailing canoe ride on Ka`anapali Beach and “talk story” with members of the teams about celestial navigation and the history of the Hawaiian sailing canoes. On Sunday, 8:00 a.m., witness the canoe send-off and traditional Hawaiian farewell ceremony for 10 crews as they race from Ka`anapali to Molokai. Hawaiian Moonlight

Hawaiian Moonlight.  George Kahumuku Jr. and friends volunteer their talent, and organize stage performances of Hawaiian music as their way of “giving back” to the Bailey House Museum. Bring your blanket or a low back beach chair and enjoy the evening listening to music under the moon and stars. Limited seating is available for kupuna on a first-come first-seated basis. Hula Arts at Kilauea – Sunset Hula.  Featuring Halau Kahula `O Nawahine Noho Puukapu under the direction of kumu hula Ana Nawahine Kahoopii. This inspired outdoor presentation takes place rain or shine at the hula platform located near VAC Gallery in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.  The audience is encouraged to bring sitting mat and sun/rain gear.  6:00 p.m.  All events are free (donations welcome); park entrance fees apply.
