Obon Dance & Festival.
The Obon tradition was brought to Hawaii by Japanese immigrants and evolved into a social and cultural event, as well as a religious custom designed to honor ancestors through an evening of dance, music and merry-making. Festivities and Dance schedules and locations are listed below:

Free Onsite Coral Reef Naturalist Program. Learn the names of fish you’ve seen while snorkeling and how to protect Maui’s coral reefs at Pacific Whale Foundation’s free Coral Reef Information Station. 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Wailea’s Ulua Beach. For information call (808) 249-8811 ext. 1.

Every Wednesday: Masters of Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Concert. Host and slack key guitar master George Kahumoku, Jr. is joined by renowned slack key masters who are true ambassadors of their music, their culture and their land for an evening of traditional Hawaiian songs and authentic “talk-story”. Saturday, July 3
55th Annual Paniolo Parade.
From Veteran's Cemetery to Mayor Eddie Tam Community Center. 9:00 a.m. No parking will be available in town. Parking is available at the Eddie Tam Center or at the Oskie Rice Arena-Take the FREE shuttle to town and back. The shuttle will run from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. before the parade. Thursday – Sunday, July 1 – 4
Annual Makawao Rodeo.
A very exciting rodeo event presented by the Maui Roping Club - more than 350 paniolos (cowboys) attend the rodeo from all over the world. Oskie Rice Rodeo Arena, Makawao Rodeo, a mile above Makawao town, on Olinda Road at Kaanaolo Ranch on Maui. This Hawaiian style rodeo, with rough stock and roping events, features rodeo clowns. Before and after the rodeo, enjoy live entertainment and country western dancing. Thursday and Friday are the Qualifying Runs (Free), all day from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Friday’s Bull Bash starts at 7:00 p.m., admission is $20 for adults. Saturday and Sunday, the Rodeo starts at 1:00 p.m. and admission is $15 adults, $10 students and seniors, $5 keiki (children). For more information call (808) 572-8102.

Old Fashion Fourth of July.
An old fashion Independence Day celebration with holiday specials at Front Street’s restaurants and shops. Enjoy the free concert on the oceanfront lawn of Lahaina Library starting at 5pm. Hawaiian Music Series.

Keiki Hula Festival.
Lahaina Cannery Mall. Hula dancing can be beautiful, graceful, and powerful. It can also be extremely adorable when the kids (keikis) are hula dancing. The two-day event will feature eight halau [hula schools] from across the island presenting richly choreographed kahiko and auana hula that express the traditional values of Hawaii and the Pacific Islands. The weekend celebration will also feature Hawaiian artisans and crafters demonstrating lei making, wood carving, weaving and other traditional skills. Hula performances are every other hour beginning at 11:00 a.m., and continuing until 5:00 p.m. For information call (808) 661-5304.
