Lavaman Triathlon

Big Island

Sunday April 2:
Lavaman Triathlon.
The Annual Lavaman Triathlon Festival features an Olympic distance 10K-run, 40K-bike and 1.5K-swim open to individuals and relay teams of all ages and abilities, plus 5-K sunset fun run March 28, Lava Kids Aquathon March 29, health and fitness expo, awards party and beach barbeque. Host hotel is Hilton Waikoloa Village, and events are held throughout Waikoloa Beach Resort on the Kohala Coast. Motorists are cautioned that approximately 1600 cyclists will be on the Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway between 8 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. between Waikoloa Beach Drive and the 88 Mile Marker. Cyclists will be crossing the highway at Waikoloa Beach Drive, and traffic will be stopped there to give right-of-way to the cyclists, resulting in significant delays between 8:30 and 10:30am. Motorists are encouraged to detour “up Waikoloa Drive at the north end of Ka’iminani Drive from the South end to the Upper Highway (190).” This will add approximately 25 minutes to travel time, but will avoid potentially longer delays. The speed limit on Queen Ka’ahumanu will be reduced to 45 mph during the race.  Hilton Waikoloa Village. 69-425 Waikoloa Beach Dr., Waikoloa.  6:30 a.m. to 12 noon.  For more information call (808) 329-9718.
