Twelfth Night

Oahu

Friday & Saturday, January 28 & 29:
Twelfth Night.
In this production, Shakespeare meets Strictly Ballroom. Illyria is a mythical, glitzy place where the inhabitants are in love with themselves and the idea of being in love. Into this world comes the shipwrecked Viola, grieving from her twin brother’s presumed death. She disguises herself as a male page in the service of Count Orsino, and is called upon to woo the Countess Olivia for her master. Alas, a comic love triangle develops as Viola falls in love with Orsino, who is madly in love with Olivia, who then falls for the “boy” who is Orsino’s messenger. The play satirizes what is and isn’t real in the world of love and superficial adoration. Set to the background of Big Band music and tangos, foxtrots and mambos. Kennedy Theatre, 1770 East-West Road, Honolulu.  7 p.m.  For tickets and information call (808) 956-7655 or visit http://manoa.hawaii.edu/liveonstage/twelfth-night/.
