Historic Waimea Walking Tour

Historic Waimea Walking Tour.  Take a 3 hour walk back through time in the place where Captain Cook first landed in Waimea.  Learn about the last King of Kaua`i, the missionaries, and other famous citizens of Waimea and the landmarks they left behind. Girls Guns & Glory.  Girls Guns and Glory, which was named (tongue in cheek) for everything representative of the country music front man Ward Hayden was listening to, have made a name for themselves through relentless touring, the release of four critically acclaimed records, and a slew of local and international awards. The Kona Historical Society’s Portuguese Stone Oven

Every Thursday: 
The Kona Historical Society’s Portuguese Stone Oven.  See this reproduction of a typical oven used by the Portuguese immigrants who came to Kona in the 1880s.  Join the process of panning bread dough and baking close to 100 loaves every Thursday. The program is free and the bread is available after 12:30 p.m. for $8 per loaf.  Bring your lunch and make a day of it with an oven-side picnic in the pasture. H.N. Helping Paws Visitor Volunteer Program

Every Wednesday and Thursday: 
Helping Paws Visitor Volunteer Program.  Do you miss your pet when traveling? Visitors can offer a “helping paw” to homeless animals at the Maui Humane Society shelter, located in Pu`unene (central Maui), on Mokulele Hwy. between Kihei and Kahului. 1 to 3 p.m. Help with such activities as walking dogs, bathing puppies, brushing cats, or playing with puppies and kittens. Arrive by 1 p.m. and wear close-toed shoes and comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty. For Maui visitors only.  Children age 10 to 17 are welcome when accompanied by a supervising adult for the duration.
