Kaua`i Marathon & Half Marathon

Kauai

Sunday, September 6: 
Kaua`i Marathon & Half Marathon.  The Marathons begin in Poipu and run the first 11 miles together. The courses follow the scenic coastline, offering views of beaches, rugged volcanic peaks, and green tropical rain forests. As dawn breaks, runners will experience lush green vistas as they approach the shade of the century old Tunnel of Trees. The course then winds through misty Omao where the half marathon enters Kukuiula Resort offering spectacular ocean views for the last few miles. The full marathon heads out to Lawai before climbing to the top of Kalaheo. The remaining miles are a gradual descent until runners receive a rousing island welcome upon their return to Poipu Beach. Saturday, September 6: Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Festival “Kona Style”. Event features up to 15 artists in the Hawaiian slack key guitar genre for a 6 hour long concert. Festival also features food and beverage for purchase, free giveaways, festival merchandise, and, at the end of the event, a Brand new Taylor Guitar will be given away to some lucky festival attendee. $15 Admission at the door is tax deductable. Aloha Festivals: 2014 Royal Court Investiture & Opening Ceremony

Aloha Festivals:  2014 Royal Court Investiture & Opening Ceremony. A celebration of Hawai`i’s music, dance and history intended to preserve the unique island traditions.  The king, queen, prince and princess take their place in the royal court. The Ali`i court members will receive the royal cloak, helmet, head feather lei and other symbols of their reign. Slack Key Guitar Concerts

Sunday Afternoons: 
Slack Key Guitar Concerts.  Traditional Hawaiian slack key guitar and `ukulele concerts.  September 6 – Kaua`i’s Slack Key; September 13 – Hawai`i’s Cowboy Music; September 20 – Honoring Keli`i Mawae of Molokai; September 27 – Gift of the Ancestors.  Tickets: $20 ($15 keiki/seniors).  The concerts are nahenahe – soft and sweet.  Slack key guitar and `ukulele in the real old style.  All traditional music with songs and stories of the islands, telling the history of this Hawaiian musical art form.  Voted 2014 Best Live Show in Hawai`i by Hawai`i Magazine Readers’ Choice Awards.  A portion of the proceeds supports the Hale Halawai `Ohana `O Hanalei.  Hanalei Family Community Center, 5-5299 Kuhio Hwy., Hanalei.  3 to 5 p.m.  For information and reservations call (808) 826-1469 or visit www.McMasterSlackKey.com.
