Ka Moku O Manokalanipo Pa`ani Makahiki

Ka Moku O Manokalanipo Pa`ani Makahiki. This event honors the traditional time of year from November through February when Lono the god of agriculture and peace ruled the land. One of the ways that Lono was honored was through friendly competition. The games will include 10 games – Haka Moa, Ulu Maika, Ihe, Moa Pahee, Pa Uma, Uma, Kukini, Pohaku Hooikaika, and Hukihuki, plus a Konane tournament. Kamaaina and Mailihini (visitors) ages 5 and above are invited to compete in multiple events. Awards will be given for 1st – 3rd in each event and division, and for overall 1st – 3rd. There will also be cultural demonstrations, community displays, a Kaua`i made craft fair and ono food. No admission fee. Saturdays, January 17 – February 7: Honolulu Theatre for Youth’s “Suzette Who Set to Sea”. In a small seaside village where men build boats and women do not, young Suzette longs for a life on the sea. This imaginative tale of adventure explores courage, community and the possibility that sometimes it only takes the actions of a single person to change everything.
