Chinese Moon Festival. Get a taste of a traditional Chinese Moon Festivalduring the first full moon of harvest season. Enjoy ethnic foods and cooking demos, a Chinese ribbon dance with live music played on traditional instruments, cultural arts demonstrations and children’s crafts. Hawaiicon. In addition to the usual panels and workshops in the convention rooms, take a tour, share a luau, take a hula lesson, or go to the beach with your favorite stars. The list of celebrities is unprecedented for a first year convention: Well known stars from Stargate, Atlantis, Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica, Game of Thrones, and many more. Panelists and workshop experts include world renown Mars mission scientist Bobak Ferdowski, Hawaiian cultural experts, cosplay designers, robotics teams, astronomers, and aerospace experts. Solo Competitions & Group Competitions, respectively. Featuring award-winning hālau from Hawai’i and the Mainland, performing in solo and group performances. The dancers compete in kahiko (traditional hula) and ‘auana (modern-day hula stylings) in both male and female categories, judged by renowned kumu hula.
