Obon Dance & Festival

Maui

Throughout the Month of August: 
Obon Dance & Festival.  The Obon tradition was brought to Hawaii by Japanese immigrants and evolved into a social and cultural event, as well as a religious custom designed to honor ancestors through an evening of dance, music and merry-making.  Festivities and Dance schedules and locations are listed below:

Every Friday:
Maui Friday Town Parties. Enjoy food, live entertainment, shopping and art. Free admission. Many retailers, galleries and boutiques operate extended hours and highlight special promotions. Candlelit Tours at the Baldwin Home Museum

Every Friday: 
Candlelit Tours at the Baldwin Home Museum.  Step back in time and visit the Baldwin Home Museum with a tour by candle light. Tours include free light refreshments on the lanai. 6:00 -8:30 p.m. Located on the corner of Front and Dickenson Street in the heart of historic Lahaina. Heiva I Kauai Ia Orana Tahiti 2013.  A Tahitian dance and drumming competition and festival with solo and group competition and exhibitions. Local food and Polynesian crafts and gifts are sold. Reggae in the Valley

Reggae in the Valley.  This will be the biggest “Reggae in the Valley” in its nine-year history! UB40’s legendary voice Ali Campbell headlines Maui’s signature music festival. With over 70 million albums sold worldwide, music lovers from three generations will enjoy timeless hit songs such as Red Red Wine, Kingston Town, Can’t Help Falling in Love, Homely Girl and much more.
