King Kamehameha Day in Hilo

King Kamehameha Day in Hilo.  Events will be at Moku Ola, Coconut Island, right off Bayfront Drive next to the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel. The festival kicks off at 9 a.m. with the opening ceremony, followed by a conch shell blowing contest for all ages. Enjoy traditional Hawaiian music with hula by various halau (hula schools). The festival will have traditional arts and crafts and food. King Kamehameha Day in Kohala

King Kamehameha Day in Kohala.  North Kohala is a very special place to celebrate this annual Hawaiian holiday. Kamehameha I was born in North Kohala, where residents played a prominent role in saving his life as an infant. Events start at 7 a.m. at the King Kamehameha Statue, located at 55-3415 Akoni Pule Hwy, in Kapa`au, with a 25-foot long floral lei draping.  The parade starts at 9 a.m., in Hawi, going northeast to the statue in Kapa`au and back to Kamehameha Park. The final event is a community celebration, or ho`olaulea, in Kamehameha Park from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. with hula, traditional music, local food, and arts and crafts.  For information call (808) 557-6042 or visit www.kamehamehadaycelebration.org.
