His music and chants represent the best of Hawai`i’s traditional and contemporary poetry today, earning multiple Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards in addition to a top spot on world music charts. 33rd Annual World Whale Day

33rd Annual World Whale Day.  Free, all-day celebration celebrating Hawai`i’s humpback whales. World Whale Day begins at 9 a.m. with Maui’s Parade of Whales along South Kihei Road, then continues at Kalama Park in Kihei at 10 am with live entertainment by top Hawai`i recording artists, hula, great food by local restaurants, displays by local artisans, environmental displays, children’s activities and entertainment and more. The fun continues until 5 p.m. Free satellite parking and shuttle buses available from Azeka Place Mauka and Hope Chapel. Whale Tales.  An educational event that provides ocean enthusiasts an opportunity to learn about whales and the ocean environment from world-renowned scientists, photographers and conservationists. Hear directly from researchers about their most recent discoveries, view stunning underwater photography and video of whales in their natural environment and take a benefit whale watching cruise hosted by presenters. Admission is free and registration is not required. Suggested donation $20. Na Mea Hawai`i Hula Kahiko Performance featuring Halau Na Pua Ha`aheo O Kona with kumu hula Roy Palacat. This outdoor presentation takes place rain or shine at the hula platform located near VAC Gallery. The audience is encouraged to bring sitting mat and sun/rain gear. 10:30 a.m. On the same day, there are hands-on cultural demonstrations from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm at VAC Gallery porch.
