The Arts and Traditions of Hula at Kilauea

Saturday, January 26:
The Arts and Traditions of Hula at Kilauea. This VAC program features a Hula Kahiko Informance with kumu Leilehua Yuen and Manu Josiah. A 50-minute narrated demonstration of preparation, protocol and offering of traditional hula and chant at the hula platform in Hawaii This outdoor presentation takes place rain or shine at the hula platform located near VAC Gallery. The audience is encouraged to bring sitting mats and sun/rain gear.  10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  On the same day, there is a hands-on cultural demonstration from 9:30 am to 1:30 p.m. at VAC Gallery porch. Hawai`i Volcanoes National Park. All events are free (donations welcome); park entrance fees apply.

Kulanihako`i: Living Waters

Kulanihako`i: Living Waters.  MACC’s original hula drama, which draws from epic Hawaiian myths over 2000 years old, returns to Maui for a final curtain call. With dance, chant, storytelling and dramatic interpretation, the elemental lake Kūlanihāko`i: Living Waters depicts the many facets of water and its continuous relationship between the ocean, land and sky as told through the eyes of contemporary Native Hawaiians.
