Wild Dolphin Sand Sculpture Contest

Wild Dolphin Sand Sculpture Contest.  Free and open to all ages and all levels of sand sculpting experience. Work individually or as part of a family or group to create a sand sculpture in honor of wild dolphins. Prizes awarded to top entries in several categories.  All participants will receive a free dolphin poster and free dolphin guide. Some shovels and pails will be provided by Pacific Whale Foundation’s team, but all are urged to bring their own tools, if possible. Begins at 9 a.m. and continues to noon. Free registration on the morning of the contest at the north end of Keawakapu Beach on the sand by Sarento’s Restaurant. Judging 11:30 am to noon. Establishment Day Hawaiian Festival.  The annual cultural festival at the Puukohola Heiau National Historical Site features a royal court procession along with many hands-on ancient Hawaiian lifestyle activities such as lei making, ipu making, lauhala weaving, poi pounding, plus double hull canoe rides, food tasting and much more. Hawaii Sand Festival and Sand Castle/Art Contest

Kauai

Saturday, August 11: 
Hawaii Sand Festival and Sand Castle/Art Contest.  Everyone is invited to come to this FREE event and build their own sand castle or sand art and enjoy the music. Individuals or teams of any size are all welcome. For keikis (kids), young and old, beginners, artists and sand sculptors. Prizes will be awarded for different age groups, individuals, teams and types of art. Bring your own shovels, pails, tools, molds, sprayers (very helpful) for sculpting sand. Bring a hat or shade, sunscreen, food, and drinking water. 11:00 – Free registration and start of the event. 11:30 – Free lesson by world renowned sand sculpture and teacher Jeff Peterson. 3:30 – Final judging. 4:00 – Awards ceremony.  Location is to the left of Hanalei pier.
