Obon Dance & Festival

Saturdays throughout the Month of August: 
Obon Dance & Festival.  The Obon tradition was brought to Hawaii by Japanese immigrants and evolved into a social and cultural event, as well as a religious custom designed to honor ancestors through an evening of dance, music and merry-making.

11th Annual Heiva I Kauai Iorana Tahiti, Cultural Festival in Kapa’a.  An international Tahitian dance competition with solo and group performances and traditional and contemporary Tahitian drumming competition. Dance exhibitions by award winning Te Vai Ura Nui daily. Polynesian artists & cultural demonstrations, Island foods and Polynesian crafts available, silent auction daily, Tahitian dance and drumming workshops, and more. Kapa’a Slack Key Saturdays.  Traditional Hawaiian slack key guitar and ‘ukulele concerts. Maui Swap Meet.  Maui’s largest flea market is a great place to shop for unique, home-made, handcrafted, quality products at reasonable prices.  University of Hawaii – Maui College, 310 Kaahumanu Ave, Kahului.  7:00 a.m. to 1:00.  Cost is 50 cents; free after 12:30 p.m.
